My Introduction 

My name is Sherri Brown and I am taking the Women’s Health class as part of my degree plan. I am the fifth out of six siblings. I am single without any children. However, I have plenty nieces and nephews and I love them all. My major is Public Health. I chose this major out of concern for the health of all people in our communities. I am currently employed with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. I have been employed there for eight years and I hope to retire here.  My favorite pastime is to listen to music. I love all types of music. I love to just sit back relax and listen to R&B, country western, zydeco, and gospel. I also love to zydeco dance. One thing that people may not know about me is I take full ownership when I make a mistake.

My personal interest in health comes from having many family and friends, who have had major health issues throughout the years. My friend Patty died from breast and lung cancer. I have quite a few friends that are in remission from breast cancer. These are middle-class women, who live a relatively normal lifestyle and are not in drugs and alcohol.  My mother lives in a neighborhood that there have been several cancer cases. The interesting thing is they all live on the same side of the street.  My expectation from this class is to learn more about the different health issues and diseases pertaining to women.
